Welcome, if you’ve found yourself here you may be taking an important step toward a psychologically better future. I know that’s not always an easy one to take. Perhaps you’re someone who can find themselves carried around the same relational patterns, or dancing the same old relational dance with other people or yourself and you want to make a change. Perhaps you want to understand something about yourself on a deeper level, or you know deep down that you have something to work on that you can’t do alone.
I’m a compassionate, nonjudgemental Yorkshire lass, very fallible human being, and a clinical psychologist. I’m here, mainly online for now, to listen and use my psychological know-how to formulate collaboratively with you what’s going on, how you got here and what’s maintaining the aspects of your life that don’t serve you well. We work out together what’s really the problem, if there is one, and how best to therapeutically go about solving it. We work out how to make the wise decision about what you need to accept and what you can influence. We work together within a therapeutic modality that my training lets me do, and that I’ve given you as one of a few therapy options that I think would fit you. You choose it, and we review together every so often to see if it’s working, and if I need to change anything in the plan.
You don’t have to do the therapy bit, you might prefer to stay with the formulation part for a different perspective and way of understanding yourself. You might pick a therapy that’s about making a lot of on-purpose change, that’s values or goal-directed, or you might choose to do more exploratory work.
I work with a wide range of presenting problems that people bring and those might involve a more clinical type diagnosis like of a mood disorder or a personality disorder, or you might not want or recognise any kind of label for yourself and that’s okay too. As a clinical psychologist my main way of understanding people is through that formulation process, and that might end up being represented between us as a diagram or some writing, or drawing.
When the weather is safe and in our favour, and when I’m doing face to face work, I also sometimes offer therapy outdoors. Some people find that particularly helpful and in-tune with who they are and how they think. Let me know if that’s something you might be interested in at some point.
